The fog was heavy and the rain drizzled in every direction as I pulled into the driveway of Walkersons Hotel & Spa in Dullstroom. If someone had told me that I was deep in the Scottish Highlands, I would have believed them.
But as soon as I stepped inside the main house, I felt the warmth of the roaring fire on my face, and I was sure that I was about to have a cosy weekend in the capable hands of General Manager, Kate Christie, and the rest her charming staff.
It may have been a freakishly cold weekend for October, but the rooms are perfectly equipped for such unfavorable weather. The suites at Walkersons are enormous, featuring the largest beds I’ve ever seen and fireplaces that make you feel instantly at home. Not only that, but the mini bar is always fully stocked, complete with a fresh lemon and even a chopping board, ready for a late-night gin & tonic. With an inviting bathtub sitting in one of the room’s two bathrooms, I could happily have spent the whole weekend indoors.
